Spring Break Sweets

I love to bake and I especially love to bake for our class. Wishing the class a "sweet spring break" we ended the day before vacation with a little cake and conversation.

Visiting the Cloisters

Both third grade classes visited the Cloisters on April 16th and what a great time we had.

Thanks to our wonderful docent, we learned so much about medieval times. This is a video of her introducing us to the unicorn tapestries.

This is when we were waiting to enter the museum.

Here we are looking at different pieces of art

and the plants that create the dyes needed for the tapestries.

We then took a break to look at the beautiful Hudson River.

When our tour was over, we found a nice spot outside
and enjoyed our lunches.

While we were eating, we spotted a trolley with our
class number on it!

Later that day, during extended day, Troy, parent of Troy in Kindergarten, showed us a bass.

What a great day!

Wind Energy

By doing an experiment using windmills we created, we learned about wind energy.

Here is 302 displaying their windmills.

Yes, We Disco!

Every now and then we take a few minutes to stretch our bodies by dancing. Sometimes, we turn our classroom into a disco by pushing the tables to the side, turning the lights off and use flashlights instead. I'm always impressed at how well the class work together to transform the room and then put it back together so quickly and efficiently.

Here's a fun video from one of our discos:

Making Goo

In response to our study on kinetic and potential energies, 302 boldly attempted to create goo. The results were amazing. Here are the steps:

1. First you mix borax with water

2. Then you measure glue

3. Next, you pour the glue into another container and add food coloring

6. Finally, you add the borax mixture into the glue mixture

and stir stir stir until it gets gooey

Just remember not to eat the goo!

Yoga

This past Thursday, my friend Kate, a certified Yoga teacher, came in to teach us about Yoga. We learned some interesting facts and we sang some ancient chants as well. She also taught us some great breathing techniques and Yoga poses. We were left feeling refreshed and energized and I hope to incorporate what we learned into the classroom.

Art Show!

WHA's first art show was an incredible success! Ms. Shrem did a remarkable job organizing the whole event and I was very impressed by the third graders who helped run the show. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take many pictures during the night, but here are a few:
