Making Goo

In response to our study on kinetic and potential energies, 302 boldly attempted to create goo. The results were amazing. Here are the steps:

1. First you mix borax with water

2. Then you measure glue

3. Next, you pour the glue into another container and add food coloring

6. Finally, you add the borax mixture into the glue mixture

and stir stir stir until it gets gooey

Just remember not to eat the goo!

Yoga

This past Thursday, my friend Kate, a certified Yoga teacher, came in to teach us about Yoga. We learned some interesting facts and we sang some ancient chants as well. She also taught us some great breathing techniques and Yoga poses. We were left feeling refreshed and energized and I hope to incorporate what we learned into the classroom.

Art Show!

WHA's first art show was an incredible success! Ms. Shrem did a remarkable job organizing the whole event and I was very impressed by the third graders who helped run the show. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take many pictures during the night, but here are a few:

Drum Circle

For Black History Month, every student created a drum in their art class. We then had a drum circle, with our friends from Kindergarten, to celebrate. And, thanks to Ms. Pinnie, we were so lucky to have Patrick, the drummer of the Scissor Sisters teach us about drumming and lead our circle.

2-14-08

On the Monday before Valentine's Day, I gave each of my students a package of 25 colored sheets. They were asked to write one thing they liked about each member of the class by February 14th. On the morning of Valentine's Day, we discussed the history behind this holiday and we made mailboxes. Later, that day, we delivered our messages. It was a fun time as we ran around to each other's mailboxes dropping off our notes.

After we delivered our messages, we sat down to read them. It was a wonderful time as we shared thank yous and smiles. I was so impressed, as always, by their creativity and all of the incredible things my students had to say about each other.

The 100th Day of School!

I can't believe that today marked the 100th day of school. We had such a great time celebrating this special event.

First, we took a gallery walk of the school and looked at all of the incredible creations the students of WHA made in honor of this day.

Then, we came back into the classroom and started creating our 100 day headbands. When we finished that, we began making a patterned 100 fruit loop necklace (thumbs up to my students for waiting to indulge in the tasty cereal until after we finished!)

Finally, we created a 100 chart using our hand prints.

It was a wonderful day. Here are some pictures of only a few of the amazing 100 day items created by 302 students:

I know it's been quite some time since I've updated but I will definitely start soon. Until then.. how adorable is class 302 in front of the fountain at Lincoln Center?!
